Fort Southwest Point (c. 1797) is the only pioneer-era fort reconstructed on its original site in the state and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Admission is free and they can provide scheduled tours for school and other groups plus special weekend events for families.
The Fort’s Visitor Center houses a museum containing artifacts excavated onsite under the supervision of the Tennessee Department of Archeology. The history of the Fort comes alive during the Living History Days each summer and during the Colonial Christmas Candlelight Tour in December. Staff members dress in period costumes, recreating activities from the Fort’s past, including bag-pipe serenades and firing of the cannon.
