The goal of the Roane County Heritage Commission (established 1974) is to preserve our past for all future generations, by preserving and protecting the large collection of court documents from over the years and maintaing the Historic Roane County Courthouse in Kingston. Researchers and genealogist visit the Roane County Archives Library housed in the courthouse in search of data. This antebellum courthouse was built in the 1853-1854 time period and is one of six remaining courthouses in the state to have been built before the civil war. The courthouse is located at 119 Court Street.
