An Afternoon of Golf: Rockwood Golf and Country Club

| Events, Golf, Nature

A few weeks ago my husband and I soaked up some sunshine and played at the 9-hole Rockwood Golf and Country Club.

I had never played that particular course and, boy, was it hilly! Walk the course if you’re looking for a bit of a workout.  We went the golf cart route…

Rates are reasonable and affordable. For $13, Daniel got a round and a golf cart. If you’re walking the course it’s $7. It’s a fun and challenging course and I love the fact that it’s less than 10 minutes from our house.

Over the summer, we plan to play golf at other Roane county courses. So watch for future posts on Lakeside Golf Course and Southwest Point to name a couple. For more information on Roane county courses, click here.

For you golfers out there, Daniel added a bit more review….

Several holes have severe elevation changes and slopes which adds to the complexity of your course management as you play.

The condition of the course was pretty solid for early May. Most of the Bermuda grass in the fairways have started to green up and looks great.

The first hole was a rather lengthy downhill par 5 that required two long shots to reach the green in two. The other par 5 on the course was much shorter, but demanded a straight tee shot as the fairway narrowed greatly in the landing area. Both were among the harder holes on the course.

Accurate shot making is definitely needed at this course as landing your ball in the wrong location can cause difficult recovery shots. The greens seemed to be extremely fast downhill due to the dormant Bermuda grass (which will soon be actively growing). Accurate shots and staying below the hole will help you manage your way around this fun track.
